Never have I been more minded to write a review of a restaurant than for this one which distinguishes itself by its ghastly food, lack lustre atmosphere and outrageously high prices. The only redeeming features are its pleasant staff and exceptionally good list of north Italian wines.
I ordered salmon carpaccio which comprised two small strips of indistinguishable salmon fashioned into the shape of a flower, a small bowl of mushy broccoli and a spoonful of goop passing for yoghurt. My friend had ‘bigoli’ (a Vicenza ‘home-made’ pasta which was very far from home i.e. it had not been made in house) with a microwaved duck ragú. This was followed by sea bass with more soggy broccoli and a ‘caramel’ sauce which tasted of condensed milk with melted toffees. My secondo was micowaved rabbit with a congealed sauce that tasted more of Bisto than anything I have had in Italian, much less northern Italy which is where the cook and staff come from.
They are basically too ambitious and must think London customers are ignorant, little-travelled soaks who are unable to distinguish between excellent Italian food and pretentious ‘nouvel nothing’. How wrong they are!
