My boss and I took our colleague for lunch in the restaurant for her 40th birthday as a treat. It was a sunny day and we had a nice table on the terrace. That is the nicest thing I can say. Two of us had the set menu which is really bad value for money. My tomato salad was so disappointing, completely tasteless. I did not eat it and complained to the waiter and was still charged for it when the bill came. I emailed afterwards and have not received any reply yet. You cannot have tomatoes as a starter (for £9 I think it was!) unless they are really flavoursome. Birthday girl's meal was ok but underwhelming and boss enjoyed nice crab starter but complained tuna mains was mean portion. My lamb mains (from the set menu) was tasty but so little meat – it was mostly fat. A tiny portion of vegetable was not enough and I had to pay extra for new potatoes. Thank God for something to fill me up a bit.
We enjoyed a lovely bottle of Pouilly Fume but it was one of the cheapest at £49 a bottle. Total bill for 3 for only 2 courses was £180. Such poor value for money. The service was rubbish. We had to beg someone to take our order and ages to get the bill. I was embarrassed having suggested the venue for a birthday treat and came away hungry.
