We decided on Brasserie Zedel for supper, mid-week with two colleagues. For myself, a trip down memory lane, recounting tales of debauched nights that occurred all to frequently, when this establishment was The Atlantic Bar and Grill.
Nothing much has changed structurally to the building. The grand staircase entrance, the beautiful wood paneling in the American Bar and the vast expanse of the brasserie with it's sky high ceiling; my colleagues were duly impressed.
To food. We started with spinach tart, endive & roquefort salad, and snails in parsley butter. The portions were small but acceptable, well executed and presented. For mains we decided on the confit of duck, rib eye steak with french fries and beef bourguignon. All dishes were excellent, flavorsome and well seasoned. The portions were small, but, perhaps this should be expected, to keep the prices as reasonable as they are. All washed down with two bottles of Pinot Noir, the evening was becoming a contender for a masterclass in brasserie dining.
As mentioned by other reviewers, the brasserie is noisy. Other diners were a cross section of London life, from cool twenty somethings through to portly business executives, which all worked to create a lively atmosphere. Services was most professional. The numerous waiters friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The only complaints we had were being told we couldn't take a half full bottle of wine into the American Bar once our meal had finished, with no adequate reason given. Secondly, they should lower the lighting, as it was very bright for an evening service and in doing so, would enhance the grandeur, of this already impressive room. Overall, a very good evening, great value for money and we will all be returning in the near future.
