Everything about this Soho Italian eaterie is spot-on, not to mention drop dead delicious. Decked out in appetite-enhancing caramel tones, with a contemporary nod to the traditional trattoria, and thigh-trembling scents of wine reduction and truffle, Bocca di Lupo is the restaurant we have been waiting for. It also manages to be both gloriously indulgent and perfectly practical. We love the fact that this is one of the new generation of restaurants offering wine by the carafe as well as the bottle, and every dish has the option of a small or large plate – sensual feasting to share with others or a singular plate for those with more onanistic tastes. We asked our charming waiter what he recommended and we ate it all. A wonderful pomegranate, pecorino Romano and truffle oil salad, fried cuttlefish, red prawns and artichokes, tagliatelle with ovoli mushrooms, fresh borlotti beans braised with tomato, garlic and basil. Of particular note are the desserts. Mind-blowing. A chocolate and marzipan ball with rum-infused raisins. And something called sanguinaccio, which was a sweet paté of pig’s blood and chocolate. How to describe it? A sort of sausagey chocolate mousse. We’ll certainly be back for more.
