Now and again in life one feels inspired to do something, and for me inspiration came from a lunch last week at 1776 at 1 Lombard Street leading me to write my first ever review.
Situated at the back of the bustling and well heeled restaurant that is 1 Lombard Street, 1776 exudes a city charm coupled with a hint of Nordic grace that immediately suggests to the diner that you are to be looked after on every level. The decor is sophisticated and smart yet maintaining a sense of comfortablity that one needs as when the food is produced it would be sacrilege to rush such a wonderful experience.
Our table of three chose a different dish for all courses allowing us to witness the full range of the chefs prowess as well as the incredibly capable front of house staff, the Tartar of fallow deer prepared at the table was declared exemplary and I myself had more than a touch of food envy for that dish! My Carppacio di Manzo with shavings of artichoke as well as the usual Parmesan rode rough shod over all other Carpaccios I have had before, the beef flattened to the tenderness it deserved without being too thin that ones feels youi need to scrape it off the plate rather than cut it. Cutlets of Fallow deer served with figs and seasonal vegetables was a masterclass in flavour and touch whilst the trolley that offers a different Roast on a daily basis was showcasing a Pork belly with some of the finest crackling that ones teeth can attest to.
Cheese followed by a biiter chocolate tart, fruit slice and Expresso Pannacotta and washed down with an excellent Tokai ended this culinary adventure on a very memorable note. The wine list presented on an i pad, which I am sure the City diners will love, was concise, well chosen and very good value.
Ratings are all very well and helpful in some cases, but all I would say is that now and again evryone deserves to have a lunch like this and 1776 can certainly provide it!
