About

Yellowhammer, in Stockport, is the second endeavour from Sam Buckley of Where the Light Gets In fame. It is a triple threat: bakery, deli and pottery. The project is a collaboration between Sam, potter Joe Hartley (Left, Right and Centre) and baker Rosie Wilkes, with a focus on community. Sam actually built Where the Light Gets In alongside friends and family, and the focus there is daily menus based on what has been caught, harvested and slaughtered that day. Yellowhammer is located in Stockports old town, an area steeped in history.

Yellowhammer, which gets its name from the songbird, focuses on simple baked goods and sourdough, featuring creations from Sam and Rosie. The bird itself is recognisable by its call, which almost sounds like 'a little bit of bread and no cheese'. The bakery uses organic flour, grain-grown and milled in the UK and ingredients from small farms that prioritise flavour and biodiversity in their crops and land respectively. Large loaves of sourdough are available by the whole, half or quarter loaf, as well as baguettes and rye bread. Buns, both sweet and savoury, as well as breakfast and lunch sandwiches, cookies, pies and tarts are also on offer at Yellowhammer.

On certain evenings, the bakery switches gears to serve pizza and natural wines with vinyl and musical guests. The bakery supplies the restaurant with bread. The pottery element is split between design, production and skill sharing. Yellowhammer is a space for designers, as well as the wider community in the form of workshops showcasing different traditional and non-traditional methods.

This is a friendly, casual place that cares about its local community, as well as sharing skills and food. For more information, follow Yellowhammer on Instagram or sign up to the Where the Light Gets In newsletter to stay up to date.
