The Crown Inn’s medieval roots, charming setting opposite the church (complete with jackdaws soaring the thermals), modishly rustic interiors & lovely wooded gardens all add to its appeal, as does the excellent modern cooking. The menu trots the globe mixing a sure hand with strong flavours & good British ingredients. Starters could include char-grilled scallops with sweet potato, chorizo & spring onion risotto or an oriental tuna salad with chilli & ginger, while mains might feature char-grilled bavette of Scotch beef with boulangere potatoes, spring greens & a wild mushroom & red wine sauce, or whole-grilled sole with crushed potatoes, buttered spinach & a caper, lemon & parsley butter.
