Square Meal review of The Crown:

The crown comes as close to pub perfection as possible: there’s really good beer, a great selection of wines (for consumption on or off the premises), and a gutsy menu that sources as much local produce as is practical. And then there are the glorious views of the Essex/Suffolk border country, the soothing interiors and historical charm, and the banter and buzz of happy diners and drinkers. The seasonal array of hearty dishes might include the likes of Welsh rarebit or rock oysters and shallot vinegar, crispy pig’s ears with watercress and aioli, or daily changing fish and seafood options. Game is given deserved attention in winter, perhaps venison shepherd’s piewith parsnip mash and buttered greens, or pheasant with chestnuts, bacon, caramelised apples, cavalo nero, game chips and cider cream.
