This splendid country house hotel & restaurant sits in some grandeur down leafy Cotswold lanes. In the smartly contemporary, conservatory restaurant, with its modern, earthy tones, striped blinds & chic yet comfy chairs at the crisp-clothed tables, it’s all pretty formal, with the food somewhat weighed down by ambitious pricing: the set menu is £36 for three courses while going a la carte means around £10 for a starter & £22 for a main course. Begin with a tian of local asparagus & goats’ cheese topped with poached quails’ eggs & hollandaise, perhaps, or home-cured gravad lax with a warm crab cake, before moving on to assiette of lamb with tongue beignet, or grilled wild halibut with potato millefeuille.
