A refurbishment has breathed new life into this hotel on the quayside of historic medieval town Sandwich – & it’s hit the ground running. The Place Brasserie is a tasteful mix of neutral colours, wood floor & contemporary art by local artists, while the menu puts a strong emphasis on the words local & seasonal. Dressed Rye Bay crab & char-grilled chump of Romney Marsh lamb sit alongside comfort zone classics including homemade beef burgers & rib-eye steak, & recent hits such as lovely aromatic spiced fishcakes with pickled cucumber & carrot salad, a fresh tasting, rustic fish chowder with roasted vine tomatoes & garlic bruschetta, & lemon infused pannacotta with shortbread crisps for dessert. Should you be tempted to stay, bedrooms are of a high standard & keen golfers won’t need reminding that close by are some of the best links courses in the south east including the Open Championship course & Royal St George’s.
