The Shorehouse Seafood Restaurant

There can be no greater accolade than Trout & Salmon magazine writing you up as the restaurant at the end of the world. It’s an apt description for the Shorehouse on the far north west coast of Sutherland, a mere 17 miles from Cape Wrath. Established in the 1970s, it was taken over in 1994 and is effectively a simple farmhouse conservatory dining space with great local seafood, all of which is caught and prepared by the owners. The cooking is uncomplicated, relying on the quality of the produce rather than intricate recipes. Expect the likes of hot smoked mackerel with horseradish sauce to start, excellent prawns with salad & hot potatoes as a main, and treacle pudding & custard to finish. The wine list is brief & affordable, & there are even some seats outside. It is seasonal though, so you can only catch it from April through to September (phone to check opening times).
