Just a stone’s throw from the shoreline in the popular sailing town of Seaview, this early 19th-century hotel punches above its weight with its crowd-pleasing food. The best island produce from sea & land – including venison, vegetables & herbs from the hotel’s own farm in Carisbrooke – is served up to a smart, largely holiday crowd. Expect dishes such as grilled black bream with saffron potato, pea puree, tomato & saffron dressing, or Isle of Wight beef with cottage pie, carrot puree & beef sauce. Like the food, the uncomplicated wine list is acceptable without reaching any dizzy heights. For something less formal, try the traditional pub bar at the heart of the hotel.
