What may look like an old fashioned boozer from the outside turns out to be a light & airy pub, serving expertly cooked modern European cuisine at reasonable prices. From the same team behind Brighton’s much loved Gingerman, the Ginger Pig follows similar principles of using local produce in a seasonal menu. Tempting starters include a zingy five-spiced quail with apple remoulade and a Maderia reduction, while mains include breast of pheasant and confit leg with sweet potato fondant, parsnip purée and roast pears. There’s a retro twist to desserts, such as chestnut and frangipane tart with chocolate ice cream, & the wine list stretches much further than your average pub offering. Although it doesn’t accept bookings, the staff are friendly & service is prompt - small wonder, then, that it draws a mixed crowd of young & old, locals & foodies alike.
