The Westerly

A relaxed, affordable & unpretentious bistro, The Westerly delivers a breath of fresh air to Reigate. Its chef-patron Jonathan Coomb is already known to savvy Surrey foodies from his time running the Stephen Langton Inn at Abinger Common, but he takes things to another level here. His modern cooking, with its inviting nod to the Med, has a more refined slant, the bistro’s interior following suit, blending high-back red banquettes & brown leather upholstered chairs with modern artwork & blond-wood floors. Prime seasonal ingredients from local suppliers form the basis of bishes that are neatly presented, colourful & clear-flavoured. Lesser-used combinations & cuts catch the eye too, such as a starter of croquette of pig’s head served with sauce gribiche. Expect mains like a saddle of rabbit with morcilla, butter beans & chorizo whiel desserts might deliver a pear & raisin crumble tart with clotted cream. The reasonable wine offers a good selection by the glass or in a pot Lyonnais of 375ml or 500ml.
