Square Meal review of Alexander's at Limpsfield:
Housed in a 16th-century schoolhouse that mixes period features with modern touches, Alexander’s haute cuisine ambitions belie its quaint villagey setting. The cooking is accomplished. Tian of Cornish crab is perfectly married with potato & avocado, delicate sprigs of Thai asparagus, miniature crab cakes & chilli aioli. Mains, such as noisette of veal with sauteed spinach, cep mushroom puree & roasted ceps, are no less assured. Desserts, including bread & butter pudding with tonka bean ice cream & banana tarte tatin with banana & thyme ice cream & vanilla syrup, demonstrate equally expertly executed flavours. Only seared John Dory marred by an over-abundance of peas & pea puree struck a duff note. This is refined food with a price tag to match, although meals punctuated by delectable amuses bouches do sweeten the size of the final bill.
