The Design House Restaurant

Dean Clough was once home to Crossley’s, the world’s biggest carpet manufacturers, & as you cross the flyover above Halifax, there it sits, square & solid, a massive monument to the Yorkshire textile industry. These days it’s a business & arts centre, with sandblasted stone walls & glass doors, polished flagged floors & expensive trinkets in the gallery shops. The restaurant sits snuggly on the ground floor & is a modern day shrine to the contemporary industrialist Philippe Starck, whose influence can be spotted throughout the stylish former shop floor. Local lad & chef Lee Stevens Marshall earned his stripes in two top-drawer Yorkshire eateries & delivers cracking starters such as veloute of rabbit, confit belly pork, onion & tarragon mash & magnificent mains of braised oxtail, Burgundy jus, horseradish galette & glazed garlic, but for extraordinary value look to the light lunch dishes of Toulouse sausage with lyonnaise potatoes & rib-eye with homemade chips & aioli.
