White Horse

The huge old half-timbered White Horse on the busy Kenilworth Road has been updated by Chris Kelly & David Cappendell of Metro Bar & Grill fame & it’s just as grown-up & stylish as their track record would lead you to expect. They’ve kept things pubby, of course, but it’s all been revamped with a real eye for quality and, with a large bar area, appeals to drinkers as much as diners. Diners get a decent deal though with a crowd-pleasing menu that has a lot of choice & is packed with appealing staples such as sausage & mash, burgers & grills. Pies are a bit of a speciality, whether mash-topped like the fish pie, or hale & hearty like steak, mushroom & Guinness pudding. There are more adventurous options too, such as lamb koftas & confit duck, but by & large, it’s homely fare done decently well.
