Square Meal review of Black Swan:
This 15th link in the Geronimo Inn chain marks the first stage in a planned expansion beyond central London. The former bikers’ pub on the edge of Ockham & Cobham flashes the cash spent on it, notably in a cool extension with a wrap-around covered seating area so you can sit outside even when it’s pouring down. And the modernised interior works beautifully too, with oodles of space for both drinkers & diners. Sound pub credentials are maintained – there are four real ales – & bar snacks of pork pie & piccalilli, potted ham, cider-battered cod, chips & pea puree are offered against an agreeably pubby hubbub. For those heading for the dining areas, the menu keeps faith with tradition, too, offering high-class renditions of pub classics (shepherd’s pie, chicken & leek pie), but includes dishes with a more modern accent such as potted salmon with pickled cucumber & crostini & seared sea bass fillets with crushed new potatoes & sauce vierge. Wines are well chosen. This is a good addition to the neighbourhood & has every chance of success.
