Square Meal Review of Nice ?

Cream & honey & pale wood characterise this contemporary restaurant & bar, & Nice lives up to its reputation as a good hang-out for friends wishing to share bar stools & a bottle of wine, or a table for some decent food. Everything on the modern British menu arrives beautifully presented: main course risottos include tomato with wilted spinach or chicken with wild mushroom, there are plenty of light salads & pasta dishes, as well as heartier offerings along the lines of bangers & mash or roast Norfolk duckling with caramelised apple. The only quibble is that the menu doesn’t change frequently enough. In summer, the front of the restaurant opens up, imbuing the space with the nearest thing to a Riviera feel you’ll find so close to the Pennines.

This is a bar in the centre of Prestbury Village. It has just been reopened after a refurbishment and has been renamed Nicer.Yes, very tastefully done, lots of fancy tiling and chandeliers. We recently spent a couple of hours there to celebrate a friends birthday. I cannot comment on what the actual meals are like, as we only had mixed platters to share. What we had was quite enjoyable. However, they advertise cocktails at £5.75. About five of us ordered several different ones and everyone of them was undrinkable. When asked if they were properly made. The guy behind the bar said they were authentic cocktails. I have drunk cocktails in bars all over the world and believe me these were not proper cocktails.
Colleen and Wayne Rooney have frequented this bar, Wonder if they had the “cocktails”!
