The White House Restaurant

This long-established restaurant remains popular with the south Manchester crowd, in particular the large local population of footballers & their wives. Where else will they find figure-conscious dishes & relaxed but professional staff who don’t call in the paparazzi the minute the England manager turns up to eat? Good service extends to wine knowledge, though recommended wines by the glass are flagged up on the menu for those too shy to engage with the sommelier. Although the a la carte prices are high for the area, many extra touches add to the experience: tables are beautifully spaced, the decor is reassuringly smart, complimentary canapes accompany pre-dinner drinks in the bar, & the bread basket circulates more than once. Dinner might include pan-fried tiger prawns on Caesar salad, followed by Cumbrian fell-bred fillet of beef & finished off with a deliciously molten chocolate fondant. There is also a set menu, currently at both lunch & dinner, that offers keener value.
