Founders of La Parmigiana in Glasgow's West End, the Giovanazzi family opened the more informal & centrally located Paperino’s way back in 1991 as a child-friendly alternative selling pizza & pasta, burgers & fish dishes. There’s no shortage of Italian eateries in the area, but the longevity of this Sauchiehall Street original means Glaswegians who were taken here as children are now coming back as adults, often with kids of their own – helping to weave the restaurant into the city’s social fabric. Although the decor is functional & there are no surprises on the menu, regulars feel right at home – especially as there are some quaffable Italian bottles on the wine list. Also at 227 Byres Road (0141 334 3811) & 78 St Vincent Street (0141 248 7878).
