Square Meal review of Paperino’s:
The Giovanazzi family, founders of La Parmigiana in Glasgow's West End, opened the more informal & central Paperino’s in 1991 as a child-friendly alternative selling pizza & pasta, burgers & fish dishes. The decor is functional, the wines mostly Italian & virtually all in the £12-£19 range – a formula that proved such a success a larger second branch opened on Byres Road in 2005. For visitors to the city, the popularity of either outlet will be a mystery – after all, there’s no shortage of Italian eateries in the area. But the longevity of the Sauchiehall Street original means Glaswegians taken there as children are now coming back as young adults, or even with kids of their own, weaving the restaurant into the city’s social fabric. Although there are no surprises with the food, regulars feel right at home. Also at 227 Byres Road, 0141 334 3811.
