Square Meal review of Ichiban:
Ichiban knocks the socks off Wagamama. Big bowls of noodles – spicy ramen soup, say, topped with slices of char-grilled sirloin steak with fresh chillis, bean sprouts & lime – are teamed up with a small range of wok-fried & curry dishes. Sushi, gyoza & onigiri (rice balls) appear in bento boxes with prawn, salmon & vegetables tempura, for example, or are served as starters or snacks alongside maki rolls, chicken kushiyaki skewers or squid teriyaki. It’s all very reasonably priced, especially the set lunch of one main & one side dish for £6.50, & staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Also at 184 Dumbarton Road (0141 334 9222).
