Square Meal review of The Green Man:

Something of a find, the Green Man is the best place to eat in the Stansted area (it’s a 10-minute drive from the airport). True, the competition isn’t all that stiff – yet – but the Green Man isn't resting on its laurels. The former down-at-heel boozer has retained 15th-century details in the bar area but brings smart, contemporary styling to the airy dining room. The food presses all the right buttons. Raw materials are sourced, where possible, from within a five-mile radius, eggs & chickens are free-range, & fish is from sustainable sources. Seasonal dishes range from scallops with mackerel mousse & dressed rocket salad to roast rack of English lamb with celeriac dauphinoise & red wine jus. If it’s a snack you’re after, try the Italian deli board or wild mushroom & pecorino risotto from the bar menu. You can eat in the bar, restaurant or large back garden. An eclectic wine list features offerings from both Old & New World – many under £20 a bottle – & friendly staff foster a cheerful ambience. Little wonder the place is buzzing.
