A former church, Oran Mor opened for business in its current guise in 2004. Since then it has built a solid reputation as a cultural/arts centre, although it also has a restaurant & a notable whisky bar with a traditional ‘island’ counter, wooden fixtures, bare stone & various artworks around the walls. The food is good enough to attract people who are fans of neither whisky nor drama, while there are a couple of real ales for the beer monsters – sold under the Oran Mor name but made by the Kelburn & Houston breweries (both near Glasgow). As for the celebrated whisky list, it has well over 200 choices including premium names such as a fine 30-year-old Highland Park from Orkney & a gorgeous 25-year-old Talisker from Skye – although you will pay top whack for those.
