Square Meal review of Pintxo People:
This Brighton venture brings big city pizzazz to the south coast. The man behind it is Jason Fendick, latterly of cocktail consultancy the Gorgeous Group. But here, Fendick has put hunger before hooch with considerable success. An informal downstairs deli dishes out pintxos (the bite-sized morsels served in the Basque region of Spain), wine & sangria, while an upstairs restaurant, opulently furnished in black & red, places full-size modern Catalan dishes in the centre of the table for sharing. Downstairs, expect pintxos of bread topped with tortilla, piquillo pepper & chorizo, or crab meat & prawns. In the restaurant, roasted vegetable terrine is served with fat Spanish anchovies & crisp-fried cheese ravioli on an apple salad, while scallops come with fresh mango & wok-fried seafood with mirin (the latter slightly less impressive). Excellent service, a mostly Spanish wine list & very good prices are further pluses.
