It may be sister hotel to the acclaimed Vineyard at Stockcross, but The Donnington Valley Hotel is a destination in its own right. Its WinePress restaurant serves simple but wholesome fare along the lines of foie gras, ham hock & duck terrine or loin of lamb with boulangere potatoes & spinach. As the name suggests, the choice of wines is wide-ranging, with a good selection by the glass.
An excellent all-round
list, with bonus point for the useful way the wines are categorised. Some are listed by style, with enthusiastic information; some of the cheaper examples fall under the ‘trusted friends’ banner;
those with more traditional tastes can head for the ‘classics’. Add to this an excellent range of Taittinger, and a mature-wine section (the ‘beauty of age’), and you have an enviable list.
