Square Meal review of The New Yard Restaurant:
Casual but with a polished patina & pampering service, New Yard is a cosy space with an open hearth to cheer dull days. Although the former coach house on the remote Trewlowarren estate is an unlikely spot for a restaurant, the kitchen is absolutely committed to local ingredients & chef Greg Laskey takes pains to do them justice. Which means that a leek or a cut of venison tastes intensely of itself, not of its sauce or seasoning. He is just as respectful of seafood – pan-fried skate may be served with seasonal vegetables & balsamic vinegar caper sauce. At dessert an intensely coloured lemon tart with rhubarb & ginger compote is a triumph. Factor in local Cornish cheeses & a thoughtful, reasonably priced wine list, & it is well worth the trip to this modest restaurant where pretension is anathema & taste is paramount. Cream teas are served between 3-5pm June-Sept.
