Rick Stein’s Cafe

With Stein’s Fish & Chips, Stein’s Deli & Stein’s Patisserie, as well as the eye-wateringly expensive Seafood Restaurant & the chic St Petroc’s Brasserie, it’s hard to visit Padstow & not experience the Rick Stein phenomenon in one form or another. This is a casual cafe-with-rooms. Breakfast (8-10am) ranges from heuvos rancheros & grilled kippers to bacon sandwiches & a classic full English. At lunch & dinner things are kept down to earth with burgers, ribeye steaks & the likes of grilled haddock fillet with split geen peas & tartare sauce, or griddled chicken breast with carrot, ginger & chilli sambal. For dessert, it’s hard to resist sunken chocolate cake. The Cafe is a pleasant, rather intimate space with bright contemporary art on the walls & close-packed wood tables & where young & cheerful service matches the ambience.
