Set back from the lane, with far-reaching views across the Somerset Levels, this rambling 16th-century pub boasts super accommodation with seating areas, big brass beds & capacious bathrooms. Beams dominate the bar & you can eat here or in the dining area, which has a polished wood floor & scrubbed pine tables. Start with warm smoked quail, horseradish mash & caramelised apple or star anise-glazed belly pork with caramelised pear; proceed to gilt head bream fillet with wasabi Puy lentils & hoisin stir-fried vegetables or rib-eye steak with fries, then finish with glazed orange & lemon tart. Decent wines by the glass; alternatively check out the local ales & cider.
