Square Meal review of Coventry Arms:
Smack beside the A31 west of Wimborne, this converted 15th-century watermill is well worth travelling the extra mile beyond the Little Chef. The attraction? A cracking bar with low beams, bare boards, a big blazing fire & tip-top beer from the barrel. Beams extend beyond the fireplace into three dining areas, all cosy & candlelit at night & filled with fishing paraphernalia. On the ‘excellent’ food front, enterprising specials take in turbot with tomato & herb linguine, whole Poole plaice with chive butter, or gurnard with mussel broth, while other specialities include local estate game (Sika deer fillet with cranberry jus). In fact, all produce is sourced from the surrounding area. Those looking for a quick bite will find local sausages, salads & ploughman’s on the menu. Summer tables beside the millstream are well away from the road and service is ‘very good’, too.
