The Endeavour

Named after the ship that took Captain Cook on his explorations, & situated in the village where Cook worked as a lad, the Endeavour has all the saltiness you would expect from a restaurant just yards from the sea. In-shore boats that still fish out of Staithes & Whitby bring in crab, lobster, turbot, halibut, sea trout & Dover sole – a bounty that owners Brian Kay & Charlotte Willoughby fully exploit to produce a nightly changing menu of impressive sophistication in their cosy, candlelit dining room of just 25 covers. Griddled razor clams with garlic butter, mousse of home-salted pollock, local langoustines, ray wing in black butter & Staithes lobster with hazelnut butter suggest the range. Elsewhere, you’ll find a scattering of meat & non-meat dishes & high standards are sustained from home-made breads, a well-matched wine list & sophisticated & scrumptious desserts.
