Oriental Bar & Restaurant
A smart Mailbox restaurant in a pleasant waterside setting, the Oriental Bar & Restaurant makes much of its ambitious menu, assembling polyglot flavours from the Far East under one roof. A special emphasis is placed on Malaysian influences (think hot & sour red snapper goreng, beef rendang & sambal chicken), but there’s much more besides. Thailand contributes minced pork & glass noodle salad as well as various curries, Japan offers miso soup, teriyaki steak & prawn tempura, while China is represented by dishes such as soft-shell crab with salt & chilli or lamb with black bean sauce. Dishes are swankily presented in an upmarket European manner & priced accordingly. In addition to the full carte, there’s a reasonably priced bar lunch menu offering oriental tapas (samosas, spring rolls et al), plus noodles, soups, rice plates & salads.
