Square Meal review of Roti:
Roti originally opened in 2005 in fairly small premises off Rose Street but the plan – they say – was always to move somewhere more extensive if the concept proved successful. From summer 2007, the restaurant took over a larger and more cosmopolitan space in the Scottish Widows building on Morrison Street. Owner Tony Singh (who also runs Oloroso in the city) continues to aim a long way beyond the typical curry house with mains like butter chicken with wild mushroom ragout & okra, Kashmiri lamb shank with masala lentils & deep-fried lotus stem, or duck breast with marrow compote & ginger sauce. There is a decent wine list, two tasting menus (omnivore and vegetarian), while the popular tiffin menu entails smaller portions hence a wider range of tastes on the table, anything from venison dumplings & spinach, to fish of the day in spiced red lentils, or sweet potato with lime and tomato. Cashew & ginger pudding or hot mango dosa for dessert perhaps.
