Square Meal review of The Drawing Room:
Perched precariously by the main road, this Georgian building houses a restaurant with three bedrooms. A restrained exterior hides a colourful interior of reds, ochres & muted yellows & bedrooms that are simply furnished but have splendid bathrooms. Owners Melanie & Colin Dawson have local form (they used to own The Talkhouse at Pontdolgoch), & create menus based on seasonal & local availability. Expect starters such as Brecon venison carpaccio with rocket, pickled cherries, balsamic & beetroot dressing, followed by Welsh Black fillet with braised vegetables & mushrooms or herb-crusted new season lamb. To finish, there are excellent Caws Cenarth organic cheeses & blackberry & Calvados souffle with thyme & vanilla ice-cream.
