Square Meal review of Wynnstay Hotel:

There’s a strong Italian connection to the wine list and menu at this town-centre coaching inn. But they’re not trying to be an Italian restaurant. In fact, the Wynnstay remains loyal to its pubby roots, with a bar, real ales and a strong commitment to local produce on the bar-restaurant menu. What they do is work with ideas and chefs from Italy, so expect to find dishes like handmade potato and truffle ravioli alongside tagliata of salmon with lettuce sauce or mandili de seia with rabbit and olives. In 2004 a separate pizzeria opened at the rear of the hotel with properly trained pizzaioli manning the wood fired oven. True to form, among the classics – margarita, quattro formaggio – you’ll find a few special adaptations making the best of local produce.
