Bill Collison’s walk-in, treasure trove larder of a business – café, fruit & veg market, groceries – is built on buying locally from farmers & smallholders. Olives, oils, cheeses, condiments, jars & tins are packed onto myriad shelves surrounding the café, & the higgledy-piggledy, bustling market look contributes to the all-round appeal of the place. Come here for Bill’s extensive all-day menu, which includes breakfasts of eggs Benedict or smoked haddock with spinach & poached egg. Later on, hearty dinners are centred around choices such as Bill’s mezze platter or charcuterie board, followed by Thai-spiced pumpkin coconut curry or beef & ale casserole with root vegetables, with a homemade brownie or aggafredo (vanilla ice cream with double espresso) for dessert.
