Square Meal review of Dilli Restaurant:
Dilli is the old name for New Delhi, & that’s not the only unusual aspect of this Indian. A smartly styled restaurant that has gone down a storm since opening, it is famous for being the first Ayurvedic restaurant outside London, celebrating ancient Indian healing traditions. The interesting menu has lots to entice, including mussels hara masala (flavoured with curry leaves & lemongrass), methi machchi tikka (char-grilled salmon flavoured with fenugreek, cloves & a yoghurt cheese marinade) & Hyderabadi bhuna ghost (pot-roasted spring lamb). Vegetarians get a huge choice, such as a tremendous aubergine cooked in a chilli, peanut butter & yoghurt sauce. Breads deserve a special mention, from wholewheat roti, kulcha & peshwari nan to mint-flavoured paratha. There’s plenty to enjoy when it's busy – a buzzing atmosphere & views of the kitchen – but have patience with the slow (some say 'appalling') service when the place is packed on a weekend night.
