Square Meal review of The George:
Fancy a spot of spirituality with your meal? Pub, restaurant, cafe, gastropub - whatever The George actually is – it's probably unique in having therapy rooms & a shop of the crystals, incense & oils variety tagged on to the back. It's dark, cosy - a veritable Aladdin's cave. Even the restaurant is full of tasteful gift ideas (ethnic statues, tinkly dangly things) & the menu, too, has been magpied from all corners of the globe. Expect pub & bistro style favourites (surf & turf, steak au poivre) done very well indeed, alongside international peasant dishes such as Mediterranean lamb casserole, Normandy crab bake & Cornish fish pie - many of them served with the kind of 70s-style wholefood salad that's rarely seen these days outside Glastonbury. Quirky, interesting & great fun.
