Square Meal review of The Butchers Arms:
The locals love this place. It's warm, friendly, cosy (you'll have to fight for seats by the crackling fire) & the food is reliably good. Don't expect fireworks, but if you want generous portions of hearty, flavoursome home cooking then this is for you. The generous slices of battered & deep-fried brie are a perennial favourite, while the likes of fish or steak & chips are done well, made with excellent, locally sourced ingredients & homemade sauces. Traditions such as cockles & laverbread or slow roasted Welsh lamb are upheld admirably & comforting desserts such as jam roly poly are a childhood dream come true. From its creeper-clad exterior to the whitewashed rooms of its carpeted interior, this is very much a proper pub with good food rather than a carefully styled gastropub.
