Square Meal review of Fourteen:
Fourteen is a welcome new addition to the Lincoln dining scene. While there are some quibbles with the hard-edged ‘ultra modern’ decor, there are no complaints about the ‘very good’ food. Start with Paris brown roll (mushrooms & chestnuts rolled in a savoy cabbage leaf & served with a parmesan crisp), or ‘beautifully fresh’ garden pea soup, ahead of ‘perfect’ dry-marinated sea bass or braised blade of beef with horseradish foam, baked red onion & rosti. Puds have delivered the ‘lightest Bakewell tart I have eaten’ (made with Victoria plums) as well as an unusual white Stilton & Parma ham parfait served with an apricot & thyme compote. The wine list may be considered ‘uninspiring’ but it does have the advantage of being inexpensive, & ‘unobtrusive but attentive’ service has impressed.
