Square Meal review of Fourteen: ? Write your review

Fourteen is a welcome player on the Lincoln dining scene. While there are some quibbles with the hard-edged ‘ultra modern’ decor, there are no complaints about the ‘very good’ food. Start with Paris brown roll (mushrooms & chestnuts rolled in a savoy cabbage leaf & served with a parmesan crisp), or ‘beautifully fresh’ garden pea soup, ahead of ‘perfect’ dry-marinated sea bass or braised blade of beef with horseradish foam, baked red onion & rosti. Puds have delivered the ‘lightest Bakewell tart I have eaten’ (made with Victoria plums) as well as an unusual white Stilton & Parma ham parfait served with an apricot & thyme compote. The wine list may be considered ‘uninspiring’ but it does have the advantage of being inexpensive, & ‘unobtrusive but attentive’ service has impressed.

The staff were rude. I have been to many good Restaurants over the years and never have i been to a place where the waiter makes you feel like he is too good to serve you. The service was slow and the staff were very rude. The food was distinctly average. I will not forget the experience, it was most uncomfortable.

I have to completely disagree with the previous reviewer. I was there on saturday night and had a wonderful experience from start to finish. The service was polite, attentive and unobtrusive, the atmosphere was welcoming, and there was a real buzz about the place.
Our meal was superb, much better than the price would suggest it was going to be, and, dare I say it, better than the one I had recently at Ramsay's Bay Tree, and from the comments I overheard from other tables, everyone else felt the same.
In all, a lovely, quality restaurant, which is something sadly lacking in the rest of Lincoln.

i came for a meal with my partner as i only heard good things but from the moment i sat down in the cold chair next to the window i knew it was going to be a long night, starters arrived and mine looked bought in there was no flavour and only a dry taste, main course came and i ordered rabbit when it arrived it was dry and not seasoned, the sauce was maybe a tablespoons at best we asked for the bill before our desserts came as we didnt want to hang around anymore, and then the cheek of it they wanted to 12% gratuitite the never!
