The George Hotel dates back to 1770 & sits on the picturesque shores of Loch Fyne. Its ground floor is home to a dining room & an extensive bar area complete with wooden fittings & open fire. Sit in either & enjoy the simple dishes that come from the kitchen – a splendid starter of potted crab (from nearby Tarbert) with toasted sourdough & rocket, robust spaghetti bolognaise, haddock & chips or peppered Argyll venison. The desserts are similarly unfussy (crumble & custard) while the wine list is virtually all in the £12-£22 range. Atmospheric, authentic, fun, & – with its fantastic range – one of the top places in Scotland to try whisky. The large beer garden seats 50.
