A purpose built bar/restaurant on a derelict site in the heart of Chapel Allerton is the latest ambitious enterprise from the Oporto/Jake's Bar city centre stable. It’s aimed at the suburban spillover of Leeds yuppies & it's big: three floors of drinking & eating space with outdoor decks at top & bottom complete with parasols for warm weather & heaters for cooler days. The styling is contemporary & the menu is tinged with Mediterranean touches. Lunch brings casual £6 assemblies of chorizo & couscous, meatballs with yoghurt, salmon & salt cod fritters, while brunch (from £6) is offered from 10.30am-1pm on Sat & Sun & holiday Mondays. There's more elaboration at night with roast cod & chorizo, roast duck with Kirsch-soaked cherries, ricotta & spinach dumplings, or sea bass with crab mash & boullabaisse sauce. But with all the designer cocktail & import beers, drink leads & food follows.
