Review of The White Hart Inn: ? Write your own review

Set in a typical Suffolk village of colour-washed cottages & overhanging timbers stands this appealing coaching inn, which deftly manages to be both gastropub & smart restaurant. Marcus Verberne (ex Le Caprice) heads the kitchen & the food has a pronounced French accent. Dishes like pate of pheasant & partridge, coq au vin & duck confit, are menu mainstays, though there are seasonal variations. Lunch is great value, say hot watercress soup with Stilton cream & toasted almonds, followed by casserole of lamb with vegetables for £12.90. Charming, quite formal service, a wine list to match the cuisine & wood-beamed elegance in the bedrooms upstairs add to the inn's attractions.
