Square Meal review of The Cors: The Cors review

Very special, very romantic and more than a little quirky, The Cors is legendary among locals for its convivial, candlelit intimacy, its beautiful setting (a Victorian house almost lost in the heart of an exotic bog garden) and chef proprietor Nick Priestland's cooking, which is inspired and ambitious (successfully so) yet pleasingly free from unnecessary fuss and frills. Begin your evening in the bar or sitting room whose Bohemian rag-bag splendour blends modern art with antiques, or explore the beautiful, tamed jungle outside. Dinner is served in a dark grotto of a room whose stained glass window, gilt framed mirrors and flickering candles try, but ultimately fail, to distract from the very fine food. Expect the likes of seared scallops with tomato and basil sauce, followed by roasted rack of Welsh salt marsh lamb with a rosemary garlic crust and redcurrant sauce or pan fried lemon sole fillet with purple sprouting broccoli and watercress sauce.
