Cosmopolitan chic meets seaside charm at this smart 1920’s Arts & Craft dining pub-cum–hotel. Sophie Dorber’s globe-trotting repertoire uses very local, very seasonal ingredients while husband Mark’s beer (and wine) expertise was garnered over many years running the White Horse, Parsons Green. So expect distinctive speciality bottled beers & Adnams cask ales (from their Southwold brewery across the river) along with a well considered wine list – & grape ’n’ grain recommendations on every dish on the concise menu. Sophie has bought a restaurant touch to her comfort zone cooking, using home grown vegetables & quality, local raw materials to great effect, evident in crispy-gooey mozzarella & spring vegetable stuffed aranci with roasted pepper chilli salsa, or a melting Irish stew with pearl barley & herb dumplings. A new under-lit stone sun terrace & funky barbecue bar add to the garden haven, complete with salty breeze. Spacious courtyard bedrooms undergoing a stylish makeover are great for sandy feet, big or small.
