Patagonia’s owners met in the kitchens of the Park Hyatt restaurant in Buenos Aires, worked their way around Europe & finally pitched camp in Cardiff to open a cosy, modern gaff named after their home country. Since launching, this eatery has built up a loyal band of regulars who appreciate the attention to detail that goes into both the cooking & the service. Argentinian beef naturally looms large on the menu (try a slab of fillet with ‘rolled potato’, savoy cabbage & pancetta, roasted vegetables & Malbec sauce), although mains might also run to Gressingham duck breast with sautéed onions, peppers, mango & orange-scented jus. Kick off with salmon raviolo, sautéed cod cheeks, flat parsley & garlic coulis, before closing the show with summer pudding, roasted rhubarb & mascarpone with a vanilla pod.
