Square Meal review of Patagonia:
This relaxed but sophisticated little restaurant is well worth the short journey from the centre of Cardiff. The cooking is as modern & stylishly presented as the restaurant itself. The menu calls itself Modern European but reflects the Argentinian background, Italian nationality & classic French training (the specially imported French cheeses are a delight) of chef-proprietor Joaquin. Start with the likes of pan-roasted calf's liver with confit red onions, roasted garlic puree & sherry sauce, followed perhaps by slow roasted rabbit with butternut squash, dried apricots, mangetout & sage jus, or the Argentinian steak, which one reader declared ‘the best steak I’ve ever had’. Meat free options such as homemade cep & artichoke ravioli with sun-blushed tomato butter & fresh broad beans, are refreshingly interesting.
