The Pot Kiln

The Pot Kiln may look like an old pub that has seen better days, but don’t be put off. The run down appearance is deliberate, hiding a cracking place that takes its food, wine & beer seriously: not many pubs can boast that the landlord shot the deer offered on the menu, or deliver a wine list that gets its teeth into most regions & offers fair pricing & outstanding quality. The cooking style is bang on: modern, light & powerfully flavoured, with dishes such warm salad of wood pigeon with crispy bacon & black pudding, confit pork belly & gilthead bream with salsa verde, ratte potatoes & green beans. Desserts maintain momentum with treacle tart & marmalade ice-cream & a dark chocolate tart with cardamom ice cream everything it should be. This is a genuine rural local where country pursuits are championed & local producers supported, & the tiny, bare bar is a great place for a gossip over a pint of Brick Kiln – brewed by West Berkshire Brewery a field away.
