After a five-year stint operating from the ground floor of their Victorian house in Tankerton Road, Nikki Billington and Paul Watson’s “wonderful indie restaurant” and coffee shop is now happily ensconced round the corner in a low-slung, whitewashed building with terrific views over the North Sea. The deceptively simple, “family-friendly” menu of mezze and tapas-style sharing plates remains, with impeccable sourcing and craftsmanship still very much to the fore. Begin with wafer-thin slices of Italian charcuterie before sampling JoJo’s signature calamari frito. The line-up also spans everything from tender slices of lamb zinging with fresh mint and tzatziki or Dover sole grilled in lemon butter to dolmades, hummus, patatas bravas… and so it goes. The premises are licensed, but sadly the popular BYO policy has been withdrawn. Note: payment by cash or cheque only.
