After five years operating their cheerfully informal tapas-style restaurant out of the ground floor of their Victorian house in Tankerton Road, Nikki Billington & Paul Watson have moved just round the corner to a low-slung, whitewashed building that makes the most of views over the North Sea. The deceptively simple menu of Mediterranean classics remains, with impeccable sourcing & craftsmanship still very much to the fore. Begin with plates of wafer-thin slices of Italian charcuterie & move on to calamari frito – considered JoJo’s signature dish. The repertoire then embraces tender slices of cannon of lamb zinging with fresh mint & tzatziki, Dover sole grilled in lemon butter, dolmades, hoummos, patatas bravas… & so it goes. The premises are licensed, but the popular BYO policy still stands – corkage of just £2 a bottle adds to the feel-good factor.
