Square Meal review of Dining Room:
A splendid little British eatery, which has been going great guns for over 20 years & seems to get better & better. Three cottages have been combined to good parlour-like effect with several rich-hued dining rooms filled with lots of antiques & knick-knacks. The cooking similarly seems to be of a bygone era with lavishly portioned offerings such as lamb & mint pie or steak & kidney pudding. Also worth trying is the cheese pot of Double Gloucester with ale & grain mustard. There's the odd sign of modernity creeping in, too: ham hock & chicken terrine with a glazed fig & fruit chutney or chicken breast with braised baby gems, shimeji mushrooms, roasted new potatoes & thyme sauce. Desserts are indulgent (spotted dick, rhubarb & apple crumble) & a further plus is very friendly service.
