The Swan

While retaining all of its classic village-pub qualities – thatched roof, open fire, space for just having a drink, & a casual relaxed style that takes in both decor & service – the Swan is very much a foodie hang-out, with wine taken just as seriously. Nigel Ramsbottom worked with chef Franco Taruschio in the glory days of the Walnut Tree in Wales & is to be congratulated for his dedication to Suffolk produce & simple & satisfying cooking that is also highly accomplished. Chalkboards detail what’s on offer, whether very fresh fish such as grilled turbot with lobster & crayfish sauce, or a rich pan-fried saddle of venison served with braised red cabbage, pear in red wine & lemon & rosemary potatoes. Considered by fans as casual smart dining at its best, genuinely warm service from Carol Ramsbottom adds to the good fun at this local hero.
